English Curriculum Day

This year during our English Curriculum Day, the whole school enjoyed working on creative English activities based around the book ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’ by Sarah Roberts. We decided to take the ‘take one book’ approach which meant that all of the children from Nursery to year 6, enjoyed reading the same book and participating in exciting activities around what they had read. The book made children think about what they can do save the seas so they had plenty of fun getting into the role of sea creatures. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in debating, drama, art and writing throughout the day.

In the morning, the English subject leader, Mrs Thewlis, met with parents and provided them with information about how children learn to read at Farnham and sent home a booklet with ideas for how parents can help their children at home. The parents then went into classrooms to work with their children.

We finished the day with a celebration assembly where children showcased their work and discussed their learning.
It was a fantastic day which was enjoyed by all.
