British values

At Laycock Primary School we promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

We ensure that through our school vision, ethos, agreed rules, curriculum and teaching we promote respect and tolerance for all cultures, faiths and lifestyles. There is a focus on the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our pupils, as well as their emotional well-being, throughout our curriculum and assemblies.

As educators we have a duty to prepare our children for life in modern Britain and to keep them safe. We value the importance of and support the current Ofsted guidance. Democracy is evident within our school. The children vote for their school council representatives and hold many positions of responsibility within the school, such as cloakroom monitors, ICT advisors, reading buddies and technical support for assemblies; they are very proud of this.

We promote an awareness of those less fortunate than ourselves and support a number of charitable organisations, many of them local, through fund-raising activities in school. At Laycock Primary School we feel our values are a true reflection of British Values.
