The teacher in Year 1/2 is called Mrs Davies. Mrs Davies is also the SENDCo for Laycock Primary.
As a mixed aged class, we have children from both Years 1 and 2 in the classroom where they all learn together. Learning is appropriately differentiated to ensure children can both access learning and are challenged to reach their next steps.
In Year 1/2, we put a huge focus on learning to decode and read fluently. Reading helps children build confidence, unlock other areas of the curriculum and become more independent. To help us do this, we ask that parents listen to their child read every single day. If parents are reading at home and find any words or sounds difficult, just make a note of it in your child’s reading journal and we will pick this up in school. It’s really important that children bring both their reading book and reading journal to school each day.
Learning in Year 1/2 is lots of fun. It’s a little different to being in reception class but we still get chance to learn through play. To help parents understand what the children learn in Key Stage 1, we have provided some links at the bottom of this page.
On Thursday we have our PE lessons. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school so that they can access their PE learning safely.
Finally, we send lots of information and messages home via ClassDojo and ask parents to download the app so that they don’t miss anything. If you need any help with this, please speak to your class teacher.
