Attendance
Good attendance and punctuality is essential to promote the education of all pupils and is very important at Laycock Primary School.
The attendance of every child is important and we aim to ensure that every child knows that their presence is valued and they are missed when they are absent or late arriving at school.
We aim for every child to have an attendance of 97% and above. Lateness and absenteeism can have a detrimental effect on both a child's social and emotional well-being, as well as their attainment and progress.
Every minute counts! (Figures below are calculated over a school year)
-
5 minutes late each day = 2.75 days lost
-
10 minutes late each day = 5.5 days lost
-
15 minutes late each day = 8.25 days lost
-
20 minutes late each day = 11 days lost
-
30 minutes late each day = 16.5 days lost

The school gate is opened in a morning at 8:40am and doors are open and monitored by a member of staff. We have a “Soft start” which means children can enter the building through any door between 8.40am and 8.50am. All doors will closed at 8.50 and children arriving after this time, will need to go to the school office. It is very important that you let us know about any absence by informing the school office on each day of your child's absence. If the school is not notified, the absence is classified as unauthorised and will cause us concern.
Children who arrive after the close of registration (8.50am) should report to the school office. The time and reason for lateness is recorded. Any child arriving after 9:15 am is recorded as an unauthorised absence for that half-day.
The school works closely with the Local Authority and the Attendance and Pupil Welfare Service to address any concerns regarding children's attendance and punctuality and we follow the Local Authority Attendance Policy.
As part of this policy, attendance below 95% is monitored regularly and parents are informed if their attendance falls below this level. If attendance does not improve, parents will be invited into school to discuss the concerns and the Headteacher may record further absences as ‘Unauthorised’ and seek further advice form the Local Authority and the Education Welfare Service.
If your child has to leave school during the school day a parent or other responsible person should collect either him or her from the main entrance.
