Our Mission Statement

Our caring school family nurtures children and helps them to achieve their full potential. By tailoring our curriculum to suit children’s individual needs and interests, we ensure that they thrive in a stimulating learning environment. We develop a culture of respect, self-reflection and resilience through restorative practice. We are building an aspirational community through fun, child-centred experiences.

Welcome to Laycock Primary School!

Situated in the Yorkshire countryside above Keighley, we are spoilt by our setting which is within a stone’s throw of Haworth, the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, Cliffe Castle and the first public Carnegie Library in England! Step inside our school and you will see why Laycock is such a special school. We are a small half-form entry school catering for children aged between four and eleven years of age. Children are taught in four mixed-aged classes with the exception of Reception, where we keep them in a pure year group of just fifteen children. The original school building dates back to 1891, with additions in 2001, alterations in 2012 and a refurbishment completed in 2017, providing our pupils with a learning environment which is both modern yet has great charm and character. The school is set in large grounds. Our children enjoy a fantastic play area complete with climbing frame, trim trail, woodland area and playing fields. An additional garden area and pond to the front of the school provide even more opportunities for outdoor learning experiences. Our children are at the heart of everything we do and we pride ourselves on the personalised provision we achieve for each of them. Our friendly and dedicated staff works exceptionally hard to ensure each child receives the happiest and best education we can possibly provide and, being so small, we all know each other really well. ‘Pupil Voice’ is strong at Laycock Primary School, with the School Council taking a lead role in improvements across school. Parents and carers and their families are encouraged to engage with school and their child’s learning via regular Parent’s Evenings, half-termly assemblies and weekly coffee mornings.

I hope that our website will inspire you to visit Laycock Primary School, as I would be delighted to show you around. Please contact the school office – our contact details are at the foot of the page.
